THE GATHERING est un groupe néerlandais de gothic metal, doom metal, progressive rock et trip-rock créé en 1989 à Oss dans la Province de Brabant-Septentrional par BART SMITS (chant, né le 17/03/1972 à Oss), RENE RUTTEN (guitare, né le 02/07/1972 à Nijmegen), son frère HANS RUTTEN (batterie, né le 03/06/1969 à Nijmegen), FRANK BOEIJEN (claviers, né le 04/12/1973 à Berghem), JELMER WIERSMA (guitare) et HUGO PRINSEN GEERLINGS (basse, né le 16/12/1973 à Oss).
