THE BOOMTOWN RATS est un groupe irlandais de punk-rock, new wave et möd fondé en 1975 à Dún Laoghaire par BOB GELDOF (chant, né le 05/10/1951 à Dún Laoghaire), JOHNNIE FINGERS (claviers/chant, né le 10/09/1956 en Irlande), GARY ROBERTS (guitare/chant, né le 16/06/1954 en Irlande), GERRY COTT (guitare), SIMON CROWE (batterie/chant) et PETE BRIQUETTE (basse/chant, né le 02/07/1954 à Ballyjamesduff).
